Our next Parent-Child Dedication service is scheduled for Sunday, May 11, 2008. You must complete all registration forms and submit appropriate photos no later than April 25, 2008 to participate. You do not have to be a member of OGBC but we do have certain criteria that we require. Establishing a Christian home that honors God is one of the most important decisions any couple can make. There is no substitute for rearing a child in an environment where Christ is the head of the home. Twice a year, Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Preschool Ministry host Parent Child Dedication services. This is a time where families assemble before the congregation and pray with the church body about the responsibility of rearing their children according to God’s precepts. The congregation agrees to support the parents through prayer. It is important to realize that the dedication service is more about the parent than the child. In dedicating themselves as parents, the mother and father are promising to seek the Lord’s way in parenting, and to be obedient to that way. In dedicating the child, the parent is giving the child back to God just as Samuels’ mother did (1 Samuel 1). Before he was born, Hannah promised her son to God so she took Samuel to the temple to live with and assist Eli, the priest. The dedication service gives the parents the opportunity to make public their commitment to rear their child in the fear and admonition of the Lord. The parents’ commitment is to provide an environment in which their child can come to know God through the Lord Jesus Christ. You will benefit from reading Deuteronomy 6 which clearly states that it is the parent’s responsibility in teaching the children. GUIDELINES- Parent Child Dedication is open to parents who can truthfully say, “I will commit myself to raising this child to know the Lord Jesus Christ by loving, disciplining, training, and setting a positive Christ-like example. - We dedicate the child of married couples (man and woman) and the child of a single parent who is committed to God in the development of the child and will be obedient to God’s Word. - Membership at Oak Grove Baptist Church is not a requirement to participate. WHAT DO I HAVE TO PROVIDE?You will be asked to complete a simple form online concerning your child. It is also requested that you email seven digital pictures of your child to the Minister to Children at trey@oakgrovebaptist.com. These pictures may be of your child in any appropriate activity with friends and family. However, one picture must be of your child alone. |
