2016 Women’s Conference – March 19, 2016
Oak Grove Baptist is getting ready to host our 6th Annual Women’s Conference on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Over the years, we have brought women together from across Harford, Cecil, and Baltimore counties for praise and worship. A few of our speakers have included Renee Luther Dixon, a contestant from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, DeeDee Jorrowe, the world’s foremost female dog-sled musher, Laurie De Young, DJ on 93.1 WPOC, Erika Clark, a missionary targeting sex-trafficked victims, and Marie Monville, the former wife of the shooter of the Amish children in Pennsylvania. For 2016, our featured speaker is Laura Acuña. Baptist Life recently published an article on the upcoming conference. Laura exudes warmth, fun and authenticity whether speaking to her Bible study sisters, in front of a large group or in a one-on-one conversation. She passionately shares the truths the Lord has taught her through His Word and through life lessons learned along the way.
This year’s conference, entitled Be Brave: Growing Up and Moving On, is intended to encourage and uplift. In Laura’s words, “Many Christian women, even after years of knowing Jesus, find themselves stuck and unable to move forward. They dream of a life that is relevant and more reflective of their status as one of His precious daughters but, unfortunately, have to admit that they are simply not there.” Can you relate? Using the Word of God and lessons she’s learned along the way, Laura will share the brave steps you can take to grow up, move on, and discover that it is never too late to be who He created you to be!
Laura is a graduate of Liberty University where she earned a degree in Christian Counseling and a minor in Bible Studies. She’s the co-leader of The Manorwood Café, a community ministry to women living in the Montgomery, Frederick and Carroll county Maryland areas and Step Up Coaching for Women In Ministry. Laura is on the leadership team of Sisters in Faith, an annual women’s conference that began in 2001. She served as a women’s ministry leader for 15 years and is a 2012 & 2013 She Speaks graduate.
Worship leaders for the 2016 conference are Dee Jones and Karen Rickards.
